Engine remapping consists of optimising a vehicle’s performance by modifying the parameters of the original engine control unit (ECU). This process allows you to increase power and torque, resulting in reduced fuel consumption under the same driving conditions, while staying within the engine’s operating limits.
At RS-Tronic, we carry out ECU remapping (or engine mapping) tailored to each vehicle, delivering a better driving experience and optimal performance, while ensuring safety and reliability.
Every driver has different expectations: improved urban driving comfort, track performance, fuel economy, or sports preparation. That is why we offer several levels of intervention, from the most accessible to the most advanced.
Stage 1 consists of optimising the engine control unit (ECU) map to increase performance while reducing fuel consumption. This service applies to both petrol and diesel engines, with adjustments tailored to each technology (injection management, ignition timing, boost pressure, etc.).
The typical gain from a Stage 1 remap is 20 to 30% more power and torque. It is the ideal choice for drivers looking for a smoother, more enjoyable, and more responsive driving experience, whether with a dynamic petrol engine or a torque-focused, fuel-efficient diesel engine.
Stage 2 remapping goes beyond simple engine map optimisation. This stage involves hardware modifications that unlock even more of the engine’s potential. The components commonly upgraded include:
Exhaust system
Intake system
Air filter
Intercooler
Stage 2 aims to maximise performance by fully exploiting the engine’s capabilities, delivering a more significant increase in power and torque. It is recommended for drivers looking for a substantial improvement in vehicle performance while maintaining a balance between increased power and reliability.
For vehicles equipped with an automatic gearbox or a dual-clutch transmission (DSG, PDK, S-Tronic, ZF 8HP), we also offer gearbox remapping. This service complements engine remapping by reducing gear shift times, increasing the maximum operating RPM, raising the permitted torque limit, and improving transmission responsiveness in Sport mode. It is the perfect optimisation to fully take advantage of the gains provided by a Stage 1 or Stage 2 remap.
With an average price of around €0.75 to €0.80 per litre in 2026, compared with nearly €2 per litre for unleaded petrol, Superethanol-E85 has become the most economical fuel available in France. E85 ethanol conversion for your petrol vehicle is a software-based or hybrid intervention that RS-Tronic carries out on the majority of petrol engines registered since 2001.

RS-Tronic has more than 90 partner centres located throughout France and abroad. Each centre is operated by technicians trained in our procedures and equipped to carry out all the services presented on this page: Stage 1, Stage 2, E85 conversion, or gearbox remapping. Find your nearest centre to book an appointment or request a quote.
Yes, completely. Before any intervention, we systematically save your vehicle’s original engine map on our secure servers. If you wish to return to the factory settings, for example before selling your vehicle, we simply need to reinstall the original file. The restoration to the original configuration is free of charge for a period of 5 years at RS-Tronic centres where the initial remapping was carried out.
The price of an engine remap depends on the make, model, level of intervention, and options selected. As a guideline, a Stage 1 remap generally costs between €390 and €700, while a Stage 2 remap ranges from €800 to €1,500 (excluding parts).
A Stage 1 remap takes an average of 1 to 3 hours on site: ECU reading, original file backup, development or adaptation of the engine map, file installation, and road testing for validation. A Stage 2 remap involving mechanical parts generally requires one to two workshop days.
