Quad engine remapping consists of modifying the software of the electronic control unit that manages your engine. It is a purely software-based intervention that adjusts the internal parameters to unlock the true potential of your machine, without any mechanical disassembly. The principle is the same as car engine remapping or motorcycle engine remapping, but with specific considerations for quads, buggies, and SSVs: belt-driven CVT transmissions that are sensitive to torque, prolonged load usage, and often extreme off-road conditions.
The ECU (Engine Control Unit) is the electronic brain of your quad. It continuously receives data from various sensors (engine speed, throttle opening, temperature, accelerator position) and controls fuel injection, ignition, and, on certain models, turbo pressure in real time. On modern quads (post-2010), the ECU is fully programmable. On some older models, a simplified CDI ignition system is used, offering fewer adjustable parameters but still allowing optimization.
Whether you ride a traditional quad, a buggy, or an SSV, the technical approach is the same. These three vehicle categories share the same engine blocks, the same type of ECU, and often the same transmission systems. It is the injected engine map that changes, adapted to the chassis, weight, and intended use of each machine.
RS-Tronic offers four distinct interventions that can also be combined, depending on your goal. Here's what each one concretely delivers.
Stage 1 is the most requested intervention. Fully software-based, it modifies the ECU's mapping without any mechanical disassembly. We read and save your original file, then install a mapping developed specifically for your model and serial number. You gain power, torque, and responsiveness, with a map tailored to your stated usage.
For compatible quads, we carry out the Superethanol-E85 conversion. The fuel injection map is adapted so your engine runs on this much more economical fuel (around €0.75–0.80/litre in 2026, compared with nearly €1.90 for SP98). For a quad ridden frequently, the investment is often paid back within a single season.
Ethanol has an underrated technical advantage: its high octane rating (RON ≥ 100) allows the map to be optimized further than SP98 permits. By combining Stage 1 and the E85 conversion in a single intervention, we leverage this octane gain to unlock even more power while staying within the engine's tolerances. This is the most cost-effective option for riders who want both more performance and a controlled fuel budget.
Decarbonization is an internal engine cleaning procedure, separate from remapping but often complementary to it. On a quad used in dusty terrain, mud, or under sustained load, carbon deposits build up quickly in the combustion chamber, on the valves, and on the sensors. The result: power loss, temperamental starts, and jerky response under load.
Our procedure (hydrogen-based or chemical injection, depending on the model) restores the engine's internal cleanliness. Recommended before a Stage 1 on high-mileage quads.

On a utility quad, the increase in low-end torque improves traction under load, reduces fuel consumption, and limits mechanical wear by avoiding constant downshifting. For intensive agricultural use, the investment is generally recovered in less than one season.
Buggies and SSVs (Can-Am Maverick, Polaris RZR, CFMOTO ZForce, etc.) share the same engine architecture as modern quads. The remapping method is identical. Only the engine map differs, as it is adapted to the exact model, vehicle weight, transmission, and intended use.
No. E85 compatibility depends on the injection system, fuel system materials, and the quad’s year of manufacture. Some recent Can-Am, Polaris, and CFMOTO models are compatible, while others are not. Our technicians assess feasibility before carrying out any conversion.
On a new or lightly used quad, no. On a high-mileage quad, used in dusty environments (trails, vineyards, forests) or showing signs of carbon buildup, yes, we recommend it. This ensures that the new engine map is applied to an engine in its best mechanical condition.
Yes. We systematically save the original engine map. Returning to the factory settings is possible at any time, especially for resale or a visit to a dealership.
